Overweight or stagnant - which is worse?

Normal weight and in good condition can cope better and is healthier than in poor condition and overweight. But what if you can only aim for one, good fitness or a normal weight, which one is worth trying?

So is it more important for health to be at a normal weight than to be in good shape? The answer is yes and no depending on whether you want to prevent heart disease or diabetes.

Benefits of good condition

Rapakunto is more harmful to cardiovascular disease than being overweight. Good or even moderate endurance is very important for the prevention of heart disease. An obese obese is more protected from heart disease death than an unweight normal one. The same result is obtained when examining the links between fitness and obesity and morbidity.

But what if it moves but the condition doesn't improve very much? This can happen, for example, due to too little exercise and also due to unfavorable heredity. Light exercise alone is not as effective as good fitness. Fortunately, however, research shows that regular exercise (regardless of fitness changes) protects against heart disease as well as normal weight. So exercise is never in vain.

An interesting finding from studies is that obesity is more harmful to heart disease risk factors, such as elevated cholesterol, than poor fitness. Thus, the obese tend to have higher cholesterol than the poor. However, why does good fitness protect against heart disease better than normal weight? There is no clear answer to this, but apparently it only tells about the multifaceted effects of exercise and good fitness. Thus, there are other protective factors associated with good fitness, such as low blood cholesterol, which thus does not tell the whole picture.

Disadvantages of being overweight

Unlike heart disease, type 2 diabetes is susceptible to the harmful effects of being overweight. Type 2 diabetes is more likely to occur in the overweight than in the poor. Thus, even good endurance fitness cannot cover the risk of overweight diabetes. If you have a family history of type 2 diabetes and want to prevent it, it is more important to maintain a normal weight than to be in good shape.

But exercise should not be forgotten in the prevention of diabetes either. Studies show that exercise reduces the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes more in obese than normal people. This is because there is so much wrong with obesity in sugar metabolism that exercise has several factors that affect it.

Good condition or normal weight?

So the message of the research is clear: If you have a family history of diabetes, do your best to keep your weight under control. The more weight you gain, the greater the importance of exercise and fitness. If, on the other hand, you have a family history of deaths, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, do your best to stay at least reasonably fit. Mild overweight is a milder risk of heart disease than diabetes.

Either way, of course, it’s best if you can both avoid being overweight and maintain at least reasonably good fitness.
